PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
It is often a mystery where the decisions that affect our lives in the cities we live in are taken. We wanted to create a city parliament visible from the outside as an object and a parliament constantly looking at the city it affects. The facade opening aligned with the icon of Izmir, and the clock tower became a background for the parliament. From the city square, the building reflects with its mirrored facade the people of Izmir; the giant screen also acts as a multimedia display for announcements, a collector for solar energy and a display for celebrations; the rest of the massing is a slab that acts as a circulation tower and host for the office spaces. Parliament is also physically attached to this slab, overhanging above a walkway/seating area that can also be used for protests by Izmir habitants, where they will be seen and heard by the elected people easily. It is also a a ramp/staircase to enjoy the sea view at lunchtime.
